Someday
She said as they played in the sandbox one day
"Robbie,I love you,now and allways."
Robbie said sweetly quite gentle and true
"Katie,you know that I love you too"
The two-year old smiled in a big toothy grin
"I love you forever,we'll allways be friends"
"More than that" said Robbie,in a cute precious way
"When we get to be big,we'll get married someday"
"Yes Robbie you know we'll always be like this"
And she leaned from her castle and gave him a kiss.
He hugged her neck and held her hand
And then they played again like two kids in the sand.
Years down the road they went to school
And learned to live life by the rules
Girls couldn't kiss and hug on them
Because she might give cooties to him
But still in her heart Katie would say
"I am going to marry that boy someday"
As years wore on and cooties all died
Boys and girls walked side by side
They teased the girls and threw their dolls
And the girls didn't like the boys at all
But in his heart Robbie would say
"I am gonna marry that girl someday"
Time marched on and girls started to see
All the cute little boys in elementary
But the little boys in their own little world
Were falling in love with the Senior girls
But in her heart Katie would say
"I am gonna marry that boy someday"
Then time came to move to Junior High
And the girls all loved the freshmen guys
But in his heart Robbie would say
"I am gonna marry that girl someday"
Years flew by just like a bird
And they thought love was just a word
But deep within two little kids
They knew and felt what love really is
Even though he couldn't feel it at this point in time,
But Katie knew in just grade nine
And in her heart Katie would say
"I am gonna marry thta boy someday"
High school came and they were afraid
To leave the reputations that they had made
But time moves all things into place
And changes little girls baby face
And little boys aren't so small anymore
And they start to love things from their hearts core
And deep in his heart Robbie would say
"I am gonna marry that girl someday"
But this time Katie felt nothing for him
She was a cheerleader and belonged with them
She loved Marcus Johnson on the football team
It crushed Robbies heart to the very extreme
But deep in his heart Robbie would say
"I Know I will marry that girl someday"
He wrote her a note and told her his love
He wrote of the promise he remembered of
He wrote of the years he had held her dear
Even before cooties had disappeared
And he had held her so highly acclaimed
That his heart nearly stopped when he heard of her name
She read in suspense,and much more than words
Was the clenching feeling inside of her
And even though her heart just ached in surprise
No tears of affection came to her eyes
And even though she was flattered by his love
She didn't hear what he was proclaiming of
She looked up at him in total emotion
And he just about died at the words that were spoken
She asked "how can you love me like you say you do?
I have known you all along and could never love you"
He said quite softly with tears in his eyes
"How could I not,you are my life!"
"You know that you love me,but even if you don't
I will love you forever,even if you won't
"I will remember the days that are passed and gone
And will treasure the days you were with me,every one
"I will call out your name in my waking hours
And before I go to sleep Your name will be showered
"And before I wake in the morning sunlight
Your name will be on my lips while it is still night
"And if you don't love me after all that I've said
I cannot live without your love,I'd rathar be dead!"
She looked at him with newfound disgust
And said "I don't want your love,I know its just lust!"
"I Love my Marcus,and he loves me too
And he'd kill if he knew I was talking to you"
I think I'll tell him about your stupidity
For a little laughter before yells at me"
"I'd rathar him hate me then you give me your love
You are SO not everything that I had dreamed of"
"So go now little boy go back to your home
And cry your heart out and tear up your soul
"I'd rathar just stab myself with a sharp knife
Then with you spend an ounce of my life!"
And Robbie cried as she walked away
"I thought I would marry that girl someday"
Time came and time went,and he loved her still the more
In his heart he never quit before
When graduation came,he signed her book
And secretly told himself of what he forsook
His pride and his life all down on that page
Told of two children in very young age
Of how they played and how they loved
And at the time it was what she said she dreamed of
He said he still loved her although he was despised
Tears of compassion and rage filled her eyes
She found him and signed his book with pure irratation
And told him she could care less for his emotions
If he were on fire she wouldn't spit on him
And his love for her would one day end
They parted ways on graduation night
her going partying,him at home with a knife
It took all he had to resist meeting with death
To him it seemed she laughed at his breath
She scorned at his words and hated his soul
And it almost sent him out of control
Until in his heart he he heard himself say
"Theres still a chance I'll marry that girl someday"
Three months in college Marcus broke Katies heart
He tore in her soul and ripped it apart
She felt so cheated so vile and used
She cried for the stars and the earth and the moon
She needed to talk,and who should it be
But Robbie walking by her dormatory
She ran out to meet him with grief-stricken eyes
And held on his neck and told him the lies
The lies that were told to her when he broke her heart
Robbie listened quietly from finish to start
He held her to him and soothed her pain
And held her heart that ached just the same
He told her that he would always be there
He would talk and listen,and he would care
He called her each morning to see if she was okay
And checked on her through points of every day
But as soon as Thomas the law-student came
She wouldn't care to speak Robbies name
He called her once and asked how she'd been
And she cursed and stomped and yelled at him
Why would he not leave her alone
Get a life go and cry your soul out at home
Thomas knows he understands me more
Than a jerk like you ever could before
And with a heavy heart he hung up the phone
And left his dorm and went straight home
He obeyed her orders and cried til the next day
And after that he drove away
He left it all,school,work and his life
He couldn't bear to live in that town full of strife
And as he drove aimlessly day by day
"It looked like I might have married that girl someday"
When Thomas threw her up against a wall
And took her bruised heart and smahed it once and all
She cried and called Robbies dorm room at once
but she heard someone else,and not Robbies voice
"He doesn't live here,his love drove him away
No one has seen him for three months on Sunday."
She hung up the phone and swore in her heart
Never again to play with his heart
"There will allways be next time when he comes back
I'll just wait it out,I'll cut him some slack"
So she waited and waited day out and day in
But she saw no sign of her childhood friend
And as she reflected of tims that were passed,
She rememebered her first kiss,in science class
He leaned over the table and gave her a kiss
Those were thw days she had learned to miss
And the time when Billy Nease pushed her down
He fought for her every day on the playground
Until Billy stopped and just left her alone
And how happy she'd been,though the bruises were shown
Soon they were entering Junior high
And she saw him staring into her eyes
Then how she loved him,he didn't understand
But I guess he did,more than anyone then
She cried tears of remorse at the harsh words she said
When he told her he loved her,she told him drop dead
But next time it was allright,next time would be good
And she waited each day patiently as she could
One day the phone rang,and she ran to receive it
But what she had heard she could hardly believe it
"My darling,my sweet,my beautiful girl
I am parting and about to be leaving this world"
"I know you and Thomas will be happy together
But I wished for once we could be forever"
"If only he knew what he was missing
And the beautiful angel that he would be kissing"
"Then he would thank God for every breath spending
In you precious prescence,all breaths that came lending
"I wish God would lend me a few more than I have
But its all the same I'll be out of your path"
"And my feelings don't mean anything to you
But you know that in my heart I'll still love you"
"But every now and then look back on the way
Twenty years ago,on a beautiful day
"When I loved you in a little boy way
And no one could ever take that away"
"I loved you back then,and even til now,
I allways thought we would make it somehow"
"But I know this dont mean much,but I'll allways love you"
Then he breathed his last breath and his life was through.
And from his body his spirit soon fled
Over his body so cold and so dead
And thought back on life as he had wished it to be
Had he one wish,it would have been she
And silent emotions raged as he flew away
"Had I one wish,I would have married Katie someday."
Katie lay cryin alone on the floor,
And thought about her mean words she had said before
Had she one wish,what would it be?
To have Robbie back for eternity
She remebered back to that sandbox day
And cried even harder,for the wisodm that came
From a two year old child was more than could come
From someone of her age,or a thousand and one
Because in her heart still,as their lives parted ways
She thought back and wished for someday.
